After the Bardoli Satyagraha, Vallabhbhai Patel was given the title of `Sardar` by Mahatma Gandhi. The Bardoli Satyagraha was a major nonviolent protest led by Vallabhbhai Patel against the high land revenue imposed by the British in the Bardoli region of Gujarat, India. Patel`s leadership and successful resolution of the issue earned him the respect and admiration of Mahatma Gandhi. As a result, Mahatma Gandhi bestowed the title of `Sardar` on Vallabhbhai Patel, which means `leader` or `chief` in Hindi. This title was indicative of Gandhi`s recognition of Patel`s strong leadership qualities and his role in the independence movement.
