A constitutional government, by definition, is a limited government. It is a government in which the powers of the government are defined and limited by a constitution, which is the supreme law of the land. The purpose of a constitutional government is to prevent the government from abusing its power and to protect the rights of the citizens. It is often characterized by the separation of powers, checks and balances, and the rule of law.
