The President of India is elected by a process called single transferable vote. This means that citizens do not directly vote for the President, but instead, Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assemblies of the states vote on behalf of the public. Each member has a certain number of votes, and they can distribute them among the candidates as per their preference. The voting is done in a secret ballot and is conducted separately by the Electoral College, which consists of the elected members of both houses of Parliament and the elected members of the legislative assemblies of the states. The candidate who receives the majority of votes from the Electoral College is declared the President of India.
