INS Vikramaditya is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier that was inducted into the Indian Navy in November 2013. Originally commissioned by the Soviet Navy in 1987 as the aviation cruiser 'Baku', it was later renamed 'Admiral Gorshkov' by the Russian Navy. India signed a deal in 2004 to purchase and refurbish the vessel, converting it from a hybrid cruiser into a full-fledged Short Take-Off But Arrested Recovery (STOBAR) aircraft carrier. The ship features a displacement of approximately 44,500 tonnes, an overall length of 284 meters, and 22 decks. It serves as a floating airfield capable of operating MiG-29K fighter jets and various helicopters, significantly enhancing India's maritime power and blue-water naval capabilities.
